THE FLYING MACHINE

Until about 25 years ago, dad held a restricted private helicopter license which he unfortunately had to allow to lapse mainly due to the high operating and hire costs for a low-hours pilot. In 2010 he was introduced to microlight weigh-shift aircraft at his local airfield at Caboolture.  Known as trikes due to their three-wheel undercarriage, these great little aircraft are a bit like a hang-glider on steroids, hang gliding being where they originated from. Despite a four month interruption to training while he was treated for throat cancer and under the tuition of CFI John Creswell from Caboolture Microlights, he became competent to fly the trike and with about 57 hours combined instruction and solo flying in his log book, it was time to pack his trike aircraft into a 20’ shipping container headed for Croatia. Dad will undertake extra tuition in Croatia to gain a float-flying endorsement for the floats he purchased with the new trike.  Watch out for the video clips on the blog taken from a wing-tip camera at a theatre near you!

  2. Well Col if it Fly's or Floats you know what they say..... no seriously mate, well done and I am very envious of a dream well deserved and being realised, we shared enough air time to realise you're a great bloke with an insatiable dream- so go for it.

A young chap called Daryll mentioned he had not looked at your blog for a while so I got the old grey matter working and did a search and found your blog first go.
